For many seasons, the Miami Dolphins have tried their hardest to overtake the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East but they have been unsuccessful. Ever since the New England Patriots lost Tom Brady, the AFC East has belonged to the Bills and it’s not going away from them anytime soon as long as Josh Allen is under center.

The Dolphins have come close one season of winning the division in 2023-2024, but the Bills stole it away from Miami down in south beach in a Week 18 primetime game where Buffalo squeezed out a 21-14 win that gave the Bills home-field advantage in the playoffs. The Dolphins were then forced to hit the road to Kansas City where they played in freezing temperatures.

Last season, the Dolphins were pinned as potential AFC East champs as the Bills had lost a lot of talent in free agency. However, the Bills once again swept the Dolphins and won the AFC East in Week 13. On the other hand, Miami missed the playoffs at 8-9. While the Dolphins’ main offseason focus has been on Tyreek Hill for a number of reasons, we now have some huge news regarding their biggest star on defense.

Bills may not have to see CB Jalen Ramsey in AFC East anymore

According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, Jalen Ramsey and the Dolphins are “mutually set to explore trade options” with there being a real possibility that Ramsey won’t be in Miami in 2025. The team that trades for Ramsey would only be picking up $21.1 million as the Dolphins have already paid Ramsey $4 million in a roster bonus, per Rapoport.

The Dolphins acquired Ramsey in the 2023 offseason in hopes of him boosting their secondary. His first season with Miami ended with him getting Pro Bowl honors despite only playing in ten games due to a knee injury he suffered before the season began. Last season, Ramsey surprisingly didn’t earn any honors for just the third time in his career. There wasn’t a drop in production compared to other years.

With this news coming to light, the Dolphins are now one step closer to losing their star defensive player and quite frankly, Bills fans should be excited if a trade does happen sooner than later. Ramsey is still in his prime and is a quality player. Not having to worry about him when Buffalo faces Miami would make the Bills’ game planning easier.
