When we think of the Buffalo Bills, we think about how Josh Allen presents greatness week-in and week-out. Without him, the Bills wouldn’t be who they are today. His athleticism and leadership has been part of the reason why the Bills have clinched their fifth consecutive AFC East championship. In addition to Allen, they have also established a solid run game with James Cook and offensive coordinator Joe Brady has been cooking up a masterpiece with this new-look offense.
Even though the offense has been a major surprise for the better this season, defensive coordinator Bobby Babich and his defense have been unsung heroes for the Bills this season. The Bills’ defense plays great situational football and they have been able to make big plays in big moments to turn around momentum, or continue on with a domination of an opponent.
Buffalo’s 35-10 domination of the San Francisco 49ers further proves why they are among the elite units in the league. They rattled Brock Purdy, only allowing 94 passing yards and sacking him twice while also forcing a fumble off of him. While they did struggle with the rushing attack at times, they adjusted and the 49ers offense couldn’t get anything going.
However, it wasn’t just this game where the Bills defense should get credit. According to Thad Brown, the Bills’ defense recorded their 10th game out of 12 games of only allowing no more than seven points in a second half of this season.
Bills defense continues to do the hard work to allow the offense to shine
This is by no means discrediting the hardwork the Buffalo offense has done this season, but for the defense to go 10 out of 12 games of giving up no more than a touchdown in a second half, that is almost unheard of. The second half is usually where offense’s usually make adjustments and get going to score as much as possible. When they play the Bills though, the opposite usually happens.
Buffalo is usually known for having a great disciplined defense and this year is no different. Through the injuries they have battled with, the next man up mentality has worked flawlessly. What makes this even better is that the defense is almost at complete full strength with the return of Matt Milano who had not played a down of football since Week 5 of last season. He was able to come back last night and play against the 49ers.
