Bills can right a wrong 25 years in the making against the Colts in Week 10
By Brandon Ray
The Indianapolis Colts are going to be a tough team for the Buffalo Bills in Week 10. They seem to always play them hard and it’s never an “easy” type of game for Buffalo. In their last two regular season matchups against each other, the Colts have defeated the Bills by a combined score of 78-20. However, the Bills did manage to defeat the Colts in the 2020-2021 playoffs 27-24.
Both teams look different record-wise, with the Bills on top of the AFC East at 7-2 with no one near them while the Colts are looking to get to .500 this Sunday. Despite Indianapolis being 4-5 coming into this game, all five of their losses have come within less than a touchdown. This means that they typically compete up until the end and they could cause a scary moment or two against the Bills.
On the other hand, the Bills have just three wins of no more than by a touchdown. The rest of their wins came in blowout victories. If these trends continue, it looks like the Bills will more than likely need to outscore the Colts early on to avoid a fourth quarter battle where one simple mistake could cost them a win.
Buffalo is riding a four-game win streak going into Lucas Oil Stadium and they will look to extend it to five. Not only do the Bills have the chance to get closer to clinching a playoff spot, but they also have the chance to break a long drought that has been going on since the last century.
According to Nick Veronica, the Bills have not won in Indianapolis since 1998, back when the Colts were in the AFC East. Sean McDermott and the Bills have a chance to get their first win in Indianapolis for the first time this century. That’s mind blowing to think about.
The last time the Bills won against the Colts in their home stadium, it was Doug Flutie vs. Peyton Manning where the Bills survived a late comeback attempt from the Colts, winning 31-24, per the Football Database.
Buffalo Bills desperately need a Week 10 victory vs. Colts
That’s right, the Bills cannot afford a loss against the Colts. While it is more likely that the Colts will battle for a wildcard spot rather than one of the top four playoff seeds against the Bills, Indianapolis could throw a wrench into Buffalo’s potential playoff placement. You never want to lose to in-conference opponents because then you lose out on a tiebreaker, should one come up at the end of the regular season. Not to mention, the Bills are chasing the Kansas City Chiefs for the number one seed and Buffalo is already two games behind them due to the Chiefs being undefeated.
Buffalo taking a loss in Indianapolis doesn’t hurt their playoff chances, but it could definitely affect them in the final placements come December.
