The ending to Sunday Night Football between the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens will go down as one of the most epic finishes in NFL history. Two powerhouse teams meeting in primetime, in a rematch from last year in the playoffs, it was destined to be a great game.

The only thing is, it wasn’t a great game for the Bills. It was, however, a great finish for them as they somehow made a 15-point comeback in the 4th quarter to kick a walkoff field goal to beat the Ravens, 41-40

Getting late into the 4th quarter, the Ravens were up 40-25 and it took miracles for the Bills to pull off the comeback win. Whether it was Derrick Henry fumbling the ball or the defense making the right stops at the right moment, the Bills played perfect football and now they are the ones that are celebrating. However, even though the Bills and Bills Mafia should enjoy this win, we can no longer ignore the issue involving Sean McDermott.

SNF proves Bills can no longer ignore Sean McDermott problem

We have seen this story happen way too many times. McDermott, who is a defensive-minded head coach, has underdelivered in big moments (specifically against tough opponents or in the playoffs). This defense for Buffalo looked absolutely pathetic from start to nearly the finish.

They couldn’t stop the run and they allowed big plays to happen in the passing game by the Ravens. This entire offseason, the Bills prioritized fixing the defense through free agency and the draft. Yet, they still gave up 40 points in their season opener at home. I understand that it’s just the first game and Baltimore is a very tough opponent, but this was an absolutely ridiculous outing by this unit.

There’s been too many times where the defense has either cost the Bills or almost cost them a big game. At some point, McDermott has to take some of the blame. This offense led by Josh Allen should not have to be the reason why the Bills win every single game. It’s time for the defense to do their part.

Now granted, the Bills survived this game so they will get a pass. However, McDermott should still be facing some heat himself for allowing Baltimore to dominate the field as much as they did up until the end.
