The Buffalo Bills will welcome the Detroit Lions to a Thursday Night Football showdown in Week 2 to show them why the new Highmark Stadium will be louder and tougher to play in for a visiting team than it ever was at the old Highmark Stadium.
Josh Allen and the Bills will come out ready to perform, showing fans that this is a more versatile and creative team under new head coach Joe Brady. While there will be continuity, there should also be some changes for the better to improve this roster.
Can Bills win home opener at New Highmark Stadium?
Jarrett Bailey from SB Nation compiled a list of NFL predictions ahead of the 2026 season, and Bailey's prediction for the Buffalo Bills will have fans believing that the Bills will bounce back from Week 1 and beat the Detroit Lions in Week 2 by a score of 38-24.
Bailey predicts that the Buffalo Bills will avenge their Week 1 loss and easily defeat the Detroit Lions with Allen and James Cook leading the charge on Thursday Night Football.
"After falling to the Texans 24-23 in Week 1, the Bills go nuclear on the Detroit Lions to kick off Week 2 on Thursday Night Football. Josh Allen throws three touchdowns, James Cook runs for two, and Buffalo puts a beating on the Lions 38-24." Bailey added.
Having this kind of score shows that Buffalo's offense would play a big role into the outcome, and maybe James Cook could be the difference maker. Even though Detroit has an elite pass rusher in Aidan Hutchinson, their run defense could be a liability, which would set James Cook up for a big day and maybe rushing for over 100 yards.
The two new additions to the wide receiver room could contributed as well in Skyler Bell and D.J. Moore.
Looking to stay healthy for all of 2026, tight end Dalton Kincaid may also play a huge role into keeping the Bills' offense on the field. With Detroit looking to bring pressure against Allen, Kincaid could be the security blanket that Allen goes to the most.
If this prediction comes true, the Bills would improve to 1-1 on the season, and the team will have 10 days to rest before playing their second straight home game on Sunday, Sep. 27 against Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers. This future game is a good chance to build strength and power for the team and its fans.
