The month of June is ending on a major trade that has occurred in the NFL involving the Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers. The Dolphins have traded star cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers (per Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapopport) in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (per Adam Schefter), who is coming to Miami after being drafted there in 2018 and being traded to the Steelers at the beginning of the 2019 season.
The rare player-for-player trade happens and quite frankly, I’m very shocked that the Dolphins got Fitzpatrick in return. It was a sour ending between the Dolphins and Fitzpatrick back in 2019 and now they are reuniting again, even though the Dolphins are not expected to be competitive (atleast on defense).
However, that wasn’t the only trade that happened between these two organizations. Right after that news broke, Tom Pelissero reported that the Dolphins were also sending tight end Jonnu Smith to the Steelers and a late round draft pick. So basically, the Steelers are getting Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick for a late-round draft pick, per Adam Schefter.
These moves have happened after months of there being confirmation that Ramsey was eventually going to be traded out of Miami, making the AFC East much easier for the Buffalo Bills to win in 2025.
Bills' division rival lost this trade with Steelers
The Dolphins giving up both Ramsey and Smith for Fitzpatrick and later round pick makes them the loser in this trade. Ramsey is a quality cornerback and now the Dolphins have one of the worst cornerback rooms we have ever seen. Now granted, getting Fitzpatrick to plug in centerfield of the defense will give them a little bit of boost. However, outside the numbers, the Dolphins could be in big trouble.
As for Smith, he was the Dolphins’ most consistent target for Tua Tagovailoa in the offense. Now he reunites with Arther Smith in Pittsburgh where he should be a favorite target for Aaron Rodgers.
As for the Dolphins, I firmly believe that they came out weaker in this trade which just sets up the Bills to win the AFC East even more than they were before. If you thought Josh Allen was great against Miami before with Ramsey, just wait until he goes up against unproven corners when the Bills take on the Dolphins.
