Every summer right before training camp, preseason, and then the regular season, there is always hope (for most teams atleast) going into the new season. Unless you are a team like the Cardinals, Dolphins, Jets, or Browns, there is a reason to be hopeful for each team.

The Buffalo Bills are one of the league’s best teams going into 2026, as expected. However, they will look different now that Sean McDermott is no longer leading the team. The coach that he promoted to offensive coordinator in Joe Brady is now in charge. Brady isn't just the new head coach, he is a brand new head coach overall which puts some concern into what he can do with the Bills while in a win-now mode.

While Brady has been in the building since 2022 and knows what the expectations are for this franchise, he will be the biggest storyline for the franchise in 2026 and it all comes down to what he can do that Sean McDermott couldn’t. However, McDermott did a ton so Brady will need to show fans that he can be the one that leads the Bills to the promised land. At the same time, what if Brady fails?

Joe Brady holds massive pressure for Bills Mafia ahead of 2026

Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone listed each AFC team’s biggest nightmare scenario going into 2026 and when it came to the Bills, it all falls on Brady; “New head coach Joe Brady quickly proves to be in way over his head”.

"This is honestly the nightmare scenario for any year one head coach. A first-year head coach looking to be in way over his head is a death sentence for any NFL team. With how solid the Buffalo Bills have been, one would think that it'd be nearly impossible for this team to struggle, but the head coach does have a huge role in it all." said Scataglia.

"Brady not being cut out to be a head coach in this league could end up leading the Bills out of the playoffs for what would be the first time since Josh Allen's rookie season way back in the 2018 season." Scataglia added.

It’s already tough to become a new head coach in the NFL. It’s another thing to take on the massive pressure that you have to deliver instant success. Even though McDermott failed to reach the Super Bowl, he consistently won and helped turn the franchise around. Brady now has a major task to accomplish the one thing that McDermott couldn’t.

Even though new head coaches should get a chance to show what they have in their first year, Brady faces more pressure than any new head coach that was hired during this past cycle.
