It’s so hard to believe that we are going into Week 6 of the NFL season. It seems like yesterday that the Buffalo Bills were making their Week 1 comeback against the Baltimore Ravens that kicked off their phenomenal start to the season.

However, as football fans know, the season goes by too quickly so we have to enjoy every game we get because once the Super Bowl is over, it’s a long wait for the following season.

For each front office in the NFL, scouts are beginning their evaluations of college players that could be looking to hear their names called next April in the NFL Draft. The draft is always an exciting time because it’s a chance for teams to build their teams up, but we also love the drama that happens before and during the draft as well.

The Bills have been trying to build up their roster based on needs rather than just pure talent the last couple of drafts. They are in a position where they don’t need to get all of the talent in the world, but sometimes it’s a better route to go for rather than reach for a player.

Believe it or not, we could be sitting here during the winter once the season is over and looking at this roster that could be a lot different next season. The Bills have a good amount of players on expiring contracts and unless they are able to come to agreements with some players, they are going to have to address a lot of needs on their roster.

Latest 2026 mock draft has Bills addressing continuous problem (but they need to go a different route)

Tarringo Basile-Vaughan from NFL Mocks recently put together a mock draft for 2026 and Basile-Vaughan has the Bills selecting Texas A&M edge rusher, Cashius Howell.

"The Bills select Cashius Howell with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Whether or not the undefeated Bills reach and win the Super Bowl, an edge rush defender will be a top need and Howell is a player who will fit the “bill”."

It’s not that Howell wouldn’t be a solid addition (especially given the fact that both Joey Bosa and A.J. Epenesa are on expiring deals), but we have gone the edge rusher route a lot already and it’s still an issue to this day. While Greg Rousseau did sign an extension this offseason, he’s been relatively quiet.

While it might be tempting to get another edge rusher late in the first round, we also have to consider the fact that the Bills have two interior offensive linemen on expiring contracts (Connor McGovern and David Edwards), and they also have to potentially find Matt Milano’s replacement on defense.

I understand that in this league, teams need to have a consistent pass rush, but that is where Rousseau should be stepping up. Buffalo has to consider other needs rather than the one that they just can’t seem to figure out.
