Each year we seem to always get close to a Super Bowl matchup that a lot of NFL fans want. There are plenty of teams who deserve to go to the Super Bowl but end up falling short. The Buffalo Bills are one of those teams and have been for the last couple of seasons.
They have been knocked out of the divisional round the last three seasons and will look to finally end that streak against the Baltimore Ravens. With the doubt that this Bills team faced coming into this season, it would be a fantastic sight to see them take the field in New Orleans next month.
There have been two different times where the Bills have come close to reaching the Super Bowl. Back in 2021, the Bills made it to the AFC championship game but lost 38-24 to the Kansas City Chiefs. Then the following postseason, the Bills had a win in Kansas City locked up with 13 seconds remaining in the divisional round…only to lose in overtime at the hands of the Chiefs once again.
Since then, the Bills have struggled the last two postseasons and they have the chance to change that narrative this Sunday night. If the Bills are able to defeat the Ravens this weekend, there is a chance that the Bills will get another shot at getting to the Super Bowl and making the best matchup possible according to Alex Kay of Bleacher Report.
Kay put together a list of the possible Super Bowl matchups ranked from worst to first. Out of a possible 16 possible matchups, the Bills are in the top ten of their possible matchups including the top one overall.
Bills vs. Lions Super Bowl matchup is exactly what we all need
"Neither of these star-crossed franchises have ever won a Super Bowl, although the Bills came excruciatingly close on several occasions throughout the 1990s. The Lions haven't even won a conference championship since the 1950s, making them lovable losers who few would mind finally breaking through under head coach Dan Campbell."Alex Kay, Bleacher Report
Unless you are a fan of the other teams in the AFC East or NFC North, the Bills vs. Lions would be an electric matchup that everyone would watch and be excited for. Two franchises who have never won a Super Bowl and have historically not been great, meet up in New Orleans where one fan base finally gets what they deserve, a Super Bowl win.
These two teams already met in Week 15 of the regular season where the Bills won in a 48-42 thriller. Who wouldn’t want round two between them? The chances of this matchup coming true is likely, but it will still be a tough road for both teams. However, anything is possible.
