When the free agency period opened up last month in the NFL, Bills fans were curious to see what directions Brandon Beane would go in. With Joe Brady coming in as the new head coach, things were bound to change on the roster. Buffalo made some releases and even made a trade that involved CB Taron Johnson, who was an unsung hero for the Bills many times throughout his tenure.

The Bills weren’t the most active, but they made some key additions on defense which included signing EDGE Bradley Chubb to a three-year deal. While Buffalo made some moves, some of their rivals also made some (which was expected), but there was one move that was surprising, yet it wasn’t at the same time.

The Kansas City Chiefs had signed Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker from the Seattle Seahawks to a three-year deal. Everyone knew that the Chiefs heavily struggled to run the ball last season, so seeing them get Walker was not a surprise.

At the same time, them giving Walker this deal that is just over $43 million was surprising and Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report listed the signing as one of the worst this offseason.

Chiefs signing Kenneth Walker listed as a bad free agency signing (and Bills fans are laughing)

"While the 2022 second-round pick has posted two 1,000-yard seasons, he has never had 230 carries in a season. He has also never played 600 snaps in a season. Walker is being paid like a bell-cow running back. But to date, he hasn't shown that he can actually be one." said Davenport.

Walker is a solid back, but he’s not a solidified top ten back. Does he play like one at times? Sure, a lot of players do. On a consistent basis though, that’s where he lacks it.

Throughout his career, Walker has dealt with injuries and with him sharing a backfield with Zach Charbonnet in Seattle, his production has been limited at times. For Kansas City, the expectation would be that he takes pressure off of the offense. While he will at times, he hasn’t shown that he can be a go-to guy in an offense.

Another reason why Bills fans should be glad that the Chiefs opted to sign Walker is because in next week’s draft, the Chiefs could have ended up in a spot where they could potentially trade up for Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, who is by far the best prospect in this draft.

He has a higher ceiling than Walker, and he can provide an extra spark as a pass catcher. If the Chiefs were to find a way to draft him, it would provide more of a spark to their offense and Buffalo would have had the displeasure of trying to stop that element.
