The biggest news of the week after Week 6 was the Buffalo Bills trading for wide receiver Amari Cooper. Buffalo sent a 2025 3rd round pick to the Cleveland Browns and did a late round pick swap in order to acquire the Pro Bowl receiver. Cooper was having an abysmal season with the Browns, so going from Cleveland to Buffalo was a massive upgrade.
The Bills had been lacking a true number one receiver this season and Brandon Beane recognized it as well. Even though the “everybody eats” mentality is still in the building, the Bills needed more talent from the wide receiver position.
Due to the fact that the Bills would have to pay just over $800,000 for the rest of the year for Cooper, it was a no-brainer that the Bills would make this move. He was traded early on in the week to where it seemed like he was going to be able to play against the Tennessee Titans. However, it was confirmed later this weekend that Cooper was going to play.
No one knew how much Cooper was going to play, but he played a great amount of snaps against the Titans. Not only did he play, he got himself his first touchdown as a member of the Bills in the third quarter. He would finish the game with 4 catches for 66 yards and a score.
Amari Cooper knew he was going to play in Week 7 right from the start
Cooper spoke with the media after Buffalo’s 34-10 victory over the Titans and he revealed when he knew he would be suiting up this week for the Bills. According to Thad Brown, Cooper was told that he would be playing this week the moment he was traded.
Having Cooper play this week against Tennessee was the right call. He added much needed value, and he even played a role in rookie wideout Keon Coleman getting 125 receiving yards against the Titans. The good news for Cooper is that he didn’t need to be this savior that the Bills so desperately needed. All he needed to do was help open up the offense just a little bit more, and that was the case this week.
Cooper has his first game as a Bill under his belt and it was a solid one. He will now continue to learn the offense going into next week as the Bills travel across the country to take on the Seattle Seahawks.
