The one team that the Buffalo Bills should be on the lookout for within the AFC East is the team that had the NFL’s best dynasty ever; The New England Patriots. Like all dynasties, they must come to an end and when Tom Brady left the Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, that started the downfall for the Patriots in this decade.
The Bills have been the top team in the AFC East, ripping off five consecutive division championships and appearing in two AFC championships. The one team that has given the Bills a big problem to take the AFC East, the Miami Dolphins, can’t get over the hump and you can make the argument that they are heading in the wrong direction.
Then there are the New York Jets….who are just, well, the Jets. No need to get into further explanation.
However, the Patriots are the team heading into 2025 that could seriously challenge the Bills for the division. They upgraded their coaching staff and roster from last season. Not to mention, Drake Maye has shown that the can be a franchise quarterback. Now he has more weapons and protection around him for this upcoming season.
While the Patriots dominated in free agency and in the draft, it’s going to take a little bit of time for everything to click. With that being said, there is one Patriots rookie that may struggle in 2025 according to Alex Kay of Bleacher Report, who created a list of five rookies entering bad situations into 2025.
Patriots' RB TreVeyon Henderson should be an impactful player for New England, just not in 2025
If there is one thing that can be said about the Patriots, it’s that they are not afraid to play defense and run the ball. Over the last few seasons, the Bills’ run defense as been average at best, but they did address that issue this offseason. Still, it needs to come together on the field.
When New England drafted TreVeyon Henderson out of Ohio State, they added a versatile playmaker who can not only run outside of the tackles, but he can catch passes out of the backfield. At the same time, he is entering a situation where the Patriots’ offensive line is going through a revamp, and Rhamondre Stevenson is still in the backfield primarily as the RB1.
When Buffalo and New England face each other, the Bills have to always gameplan well for the Pats because these two teams play hard against each other. The last thing that Bills fans need to see is the Patriots getting creative on offense when historically, they aren’t. If Henderson somehow becomes an immediate threat for the Patriots, that could be trouble for Buffalo.
