The 2025 season for the Buffalo Bills is just another year on the streak for these Bills. An up-and-down season that had lots of great and bad moments. However, the ending is always the same; Buffalo gets bounced from the playoffs in heartbreaking fashion.
Whether you want to admit it or not, this season was a step back for Buffalo. They lost the AFC East to the New England Patriots and were bounced from the playoffs one round earlier than last season. Buffalo’s roster was not the best and had it not been for Josh Allen carrying the team, the Bills would have been in the playoffs.
For as many great moments the Bills had, they also had their fair shares of bad moments that hurt them in some fashion.
What moments would Bills like to change for the better from 2025 season?
Bills' defense giving up huge games to Bijan Robinson & Drake London
It was Monday night in Week 6 where the Buffalo Bills were down in Atlanta to take on the Falcons. The Bills were coming off their first loss of the season the week prior and many thought that this would be a cleanup game. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
Buffalo’s defense was exposed badly as both Bijan Robinson and Drake London did whatever they felt like to punish Buffalo’s defense. Robinson had 170 yards on the ground, 68 yards through the air to go with a touchdown that he ran 81 yards for.
London was targeted 16 times and reeled in 10 catches for 158 yards and a score as well. The Falcons ended up defeating the Bills 24-14 because Buffalo played extremely bad complimentary football, but they stood no chance on defense against London and Robinson.
Michael Hoecht tearing achilles in Week 9 vs. Chiefs
This moment wasn’t because of performance or the outcome of the game, but more because of losing a player who had limited playing time this season but had a huge impact for the defense. After learning that the Bills agreed to terms with Michael Hoecht in free agency, it was shortly learned that Hoecht would be suspended for the first six games of the season due to violating the league’s PED policy.
Once he served his suspension and came back, he provided a pass rush that Buffalo was lacking at the time. He played in just two games for the Bills, but he shined against the Panthers in Week 8, and then played well against the Chiefs before going down with a torn achilles.
While Buffalo got the win over Kansas City, they took a major loss with Hoecht’s injury. Since he went down, Buffalo’s pass rush was a very weak link of the team.
Brandon Beane actually acquiring a WR at trade deadline
One of the main problems that the Bills had this season was not having a true No. 1 wideout for Josh Allen. Brandon Beane had responded back to critics about him not getting a proven playmaker on the outside after the draft, yet he reportedly tried trading for Jaylen Waddle at the trade deadline per Tom Pelissero. The two teams couldn’t come to an agreement, and Waddle ended up being part of the beatdown that was delivered from Miami to Buffalo in Week 10.
The Bills failed Josh Allen when it came to delivering a quality receiver last offseason and during the season. For as great as Allen is, even he couldn’t overcome the lack of talent in the wide receiver room.
Bills giving up 8 sacks against Texans
When James Cook ripped off a 45-yard touchdown run to open up Buffalo’s game against Houston, the Bills looked like they were in shape to leave Houston with a loss. Instead, it was one of the worst performances by the offense in recent memory, but specifically by the offensive line.
Now granted, some sacks were on Josh Allen as he held onto the ball for too long but he ended up getting hit 12 times from the pocket, and was sacked 8 times. Houston’s defensive line was too much for Buffalo and they stole a win from the Bills all because Buffalo couldn’t get anything going against Houston’s front pass rush.
Josh Allen not turning the ball over 4 times vs. Broncos
There is so much controversy on the play where Josh Allen threw it to Brandin Cooks in overtime that would’ve put the Bills in field goal range to possibly win the game, but the throw was ruled an interception because the ball never touched the ground and they said Cooks didn’t have complete control to be ruled down.
That counted as an interception for Allen, and lots of people were furious that Denver got the interception call from the refs. Sure, it definitely was frustrating. However, let’s not forget the fact that the Bills may not have had to be in that situation if Allen didn’t turn it over three times before that play.
Allen had an interception and 2 fumbles before that play occurred. In addition, James Cook had a fumble as well. However, Allen’s costly fumble right before the end of the first half ended up being the biggest difference maker as Denver was able to get three points before the end of the half. Buffalo ended up losing by three…so people can be so focused on the Cooks play, but Allen’s turnovers were the reason why Buffalo was even in that situation to begin with.
