3 major improvements the Buffalo Bills need to make for Week 10

The Buffalo Bills are 7-2, but getting over the hump will require their best, and right now there are some things that need fixing ahead of their matchup with the Indianapolis Colts — and the rest of their difficult schedule.

Thanks to a game-winning field goal with five seconds remaining from kicker Tyler Bass, which earned him the AFC's Special Teams Player of the Week honors, the Bills improved to 7-2 after defeating the Miami Dolphins in nail-biting fashion in Week 9.

While good teams find ways to win, the best teams are continually looking to improve. The Bills route to an AFC East championship might be in cruise control, but the road to a Super Bowl will require some upgraded play on both sides of the ball.

The offensive and defensive units were ailing, but some of the team's issues in Sunday's win against the Dolphins have been a theme for much of this season.

If the Bills want to upgrade their status from playoff contenders to Super Bowl favourites, which I'm sure they do, here are the few areas that need improving — some of which they have already been working on:

1. Rushing Defense

The Bills tendency to play two-high safety coverages on the majority of their defensive snaps has cost their rushing defense, particularly against the Dolphins who compiled 149 rushing yards on Sunday.

But the team's interior defensive lineman haven't played up to snuff either, hence the reason General Manager Brandon Beane re-inked former Bills defensive tacklesJordan Phillips and Quinton Jefferson to the 53-man roster on Wednesday morning.

The Bills defense is ranked 26th, allowing 4.8 yards per carry to opposing offenses this season. With high-octane rushing attacks on their upcoming schedule, the defensive front will need to improve that number.

Phillips and Jefferson provide a potential boost, as will the potential return of All-Pro linebacker Matt Milano from the injured reserve, but if Buffalo can't find an answer to Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry — who rushed for 199 yards against the Bills in Week 4 — in the event they see a rematch in the playoffs, it could spell the end of Buffalo's Super Bowl hopes.
