The Buffalo Bills are a powerhouse on offense, scoring faster and more often than any other unit in the NFL. Defensively, they are a liability. The Bills' defense needs help, and there are players out there to elevate the unit. With the trade deadline closing in, what trades can Brandon Beane make on defense?
The problem at cornerback
Buffalo is seeing better play from their defensive line than they have in a decade, and it shows. From splash plays to general pressure, the line is producing results. The same can't be said of the back seven.
Buffalo has a solid CB1 in Christian Benford, and a streaky but talented rotational CB2 in Davison Igbinosun. When one of them is off the field, CB3 Maxwell Hairston simply isn't doing the job, and this defense needs better.
The issue is, Buffalo has one defined full-time starter at corner. The team still has to field Hairston, despite knowing he's not enough yet. In a season where the Buffalo offense is humming, getting burnt on the back end continues to cost them their leads. They need to raise their current ceiling, and adding Tre'Davious White doesn't do that.
Cornerback trades the Bills should consider ahead of trade deadline
These candidates are all up for grabs, and of varying price points. If a team like the Buffalo Bills needs a CB, look no further.
Tariq Woolen - Philadelphia Eagles
First of all, Tariq 'Riq' Woolen should never have been available for the Buffalo Bills. He took a one-year, $12m deal with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, expecting to put his name on the top of next year's market. As Philly falls into obscurity after the loss of Jalen Hurts for the season, they could easily become sellers.
A trade for Woolen wouldn't be a huge hit for the Bills financially. As always, future money costs less than today’s money, making this a short-term steal. Add in a plausible extension and his contract becomes much friendlier. If not, Riq Woolen is still the best rental on the market.
Expected Price: 3rd/4th round pick
Donte Jackson - Los Angeles Chargers
With the Chargers' season going downhill fast, moving on from veteran CB Donte Jackson is the correct move for them. For the Bills, he becomes an excellent cost-effective rental with no future commitment. At under $4m remaining on the season, he's in-budget and helps lift the Bills' secondary in 2026.
Expected Price: 5th/6th round pick
Mike Sainristil - Washington Commanders
Typically, players on their rookie deals with extra seasons remaining are not traded. It takes a certain situation, and there needs to be need. We have that with Mike Sainristil.
The Washington Commanders are 1-4-1 on the season and it feels like they are destined to become sellers at the trade deadline. If they want to gain some value back for some players, Sainristil could be a player of interest for the Bills. He is capable blitzer from the secondary who makes solo tackles in space, he fits the Bills exactly.
Expected Price: 4th round pick
