Bold Prediction #4: Buffalo Bills trade out of the first round
The final bold prediction for the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft is in fact that they will not make a pick in the opening round of the NFL Draft. General manager Brandon Beane has said that they don’t have many first round grades on players this year and it would appear they are more likely to trade back than up.
It would make sense for the Bills to look to trade back if they don’t believe they can get a player with a first round grade as well as try to add some additional picks. The team only has six picks after making separate trades for Nyheim Hines and Dean Marlowe during the season while adding a fifth round pick from the Arizona Cardinals for Cody Ford before the 2023 season.
While the Buffalo Bills will want to add draft picks, they will not want to trade out of the first round. The reason is if they trade out of the opening round they lose that fifth-year option on that rookie, which is very valuable to NFL teams.
The challenge for the Buffalo Bills is that there are only four teams behind them and they probably get a better offer from a team early in the second round looking to move back into the first round (potentially for Bijan Robinson). I believe this will ultimately be the move the Bills make and fans will have to wait until Friday to find out who the team’s first pick will be.
