The Buffalo Bills have had one of the top defenses in the NFL the past few seasons and the good news is that they are bringing back most of their defense from last season. In fact, they have 10 of their 11 starters under contract for the 2023 season.

However, there will certainly be some changes as defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier elected to step away for the upcoming season. The expectation is that McDermott will be taking over the play-calling, which could mean more of an aggressive defense based on how the Carolina Panthers’ defense played when McDermott was defensive coordinator there.

With the 2023 NFL Draft right around the corner, this is what the depth chart might look like for the Buffalo Bills defense at this point of the offseason.

Defensive End

Starters: Von Miller, Greg Rousseau

Backups: A.J. Epenesa, Shaq Lawson, Boogie Basham, Kingsley Jonathan

The Buffalo Bills currently have the same defensive ends that they had last season after re-signing Shaq Lawson to a one-year deal this offseason. While the Bills have the same group back they have plenty of questions with the biggest centered around Von Miller.

There is no doubt that the Buffalo Bills defense was different after Miller’s knee injury against the Detroit Lions late in the season. He would suffer a torn ACL and while he believes he will be ready to begin the season, it is far from a guarantee.

If Miller is not ready to go, then everyone should move up one spot with a depth chart battle between A.J. Epenesa, Shaq Lawson, and Boogie Basham for that starting spot. Regardless of who wins the starting job, all three should see plenty of snaps with the way the team rotates at the position.
