Buffalo Bills reportedly have free agent visit with Latavius Murray
The 2023 NFL Draft is quickly approaching but the Buffalo Bills continue to look in free agency for players that could potentially be a fit for the team. One of those players appears to be running back Latavius Murray, who had a free agent visit with the Bills based on this tweet by ESPN’s Field Yates.
Latavius Murray has played nine seasons in the NFL with the Raiders, Vikings, Saints, Ravens and most recently with the Denver Broncos.
Last season, Murray began on the Saints’ practice squad but the Broncos signed him midseason after Javonte Williams’ injury. It was a good move because Murray was productive with over 700 rushing yards in 12 games with seven starts. He also had five rushing touchdowns, 24 receptions, and 124 receiving yards.
Do the Buffalo Bills need any more running backs on the roster?
The running back position will look different this upcoming season after the Bills saw Devin Singletary leave in free agency and sign with the Houston Texans. However, they were able to add former New England Patriots’ running Damien Harris on a one-year deal.
The addition of Harris alongside James Cook, who is entering his second season, and Nyheim Hines, who the Bills traded for last season, seemed like more than enough depth at the running back position.
The Buffalo Bills have had four running backs on their 53-man roster in the past but that fourth running back has been Taiwan Jones, who almost exclusively played on special teams. Latavius Murray doesn’t appear to be a replacement for Jones as he has not played any special teams since his rookie season.
If the Buffalo Bills were to add another running back this offseason, the thought would be is it would be an undrafted free agent or a free agent that could contribute on special teams. The only other thought would be the Bills want to meet with Murray as a potential candidate for their practice squad but that would seem to be very early to even begin to think about that.
It is certainly an interesting free agent visit and could be an indication that the team may be looking for more depth at the position.
