The Buffalo Bills have been busy over the first few weeks of free agency with a number of moves. While there was not an addition on the level of Von Miller, like last offseason, general manager Brandon Beane was very methodical and addressed a number of potential needs on the roster.

With that said, the roster has room for improvement and the next big opportunity to do that should come later this month during the 2023 NFL Draft. The Buffalo Bills have six draft picks this year and these are the positions that should be the top priority for the front office over the three days of the NFL Draft.

Linebacker

The one position that is notably worse at this point compared to last year is linebacker as Tremaine Edmunds left in free agency and signed with the Chicago Bears. Considering the Bills’ salary cap, it was unlikely Buffalo could match the contract that Edmunds received from the Bears. However, there is no denying this creates a big hole in the middle of Sean McDermott’s defense.

Brandon Beane has made it clear that the Buffalo Bills are planning to enter offseason workouts and training camp with an open competition at the position. The Bills have three players on the roster presently who could replace Edmunds in Tyrel Dodson, Terrel Bernard, and Baylon Spector.

This shouldn’t stop the Buffalo Bills though from looking to add to the position, and even use one of their first draft picks. The middle linebacker is a critical position in McDermott’s defense and he has had some incredible players in this role, dating back to his time with the Panthers with Luke Kuechly.

It would be surprising if when the 2023 NFL Draft is complete, the Buffalo Bills have not added at least one more middle linebacker to the competition.
