Reason 3: The Buffalo Bills land another steal

The theme of the off-season for the Bills has been signing good veteran players to extremely team-friendly deals. Last week it was running back Damien Harris; this week, so far, it’s Rapp. While the contract details aren’t officially out, it appears Brandon Beane has landed another 1-year deal for under $2 million.

"Brandon Beane confirms the #Bills have plans to sign Taylor Rapp, although it won’t be official until he takes a physical (he’s currently on a trip to Hawaii with his wife). The deal will be less than $2 million per season, so as to not impact the compensatory draft pick formula. — Jay Skurski (@JaySkurski) March 27, 2023  Beane has been reshaping the Bills’ depth, which was tested deeply last season as the injury bug hit Buffalo hard. On paper, it seems to be much improved already, a whole month before the 2023 NFL Draft. For fans who are crazy about compensatory picks, cheap signings like this won’t affect the Bills’ chances for one. The Bills are heading toward a third-round compensatory selection for the loss of Tremaine Edmunds. It is also quite possible that the Bills are bringing Rapp in on a cheap one-year deal with the thought of him being a possible heir to Hyde or Poyer. Let him learn the system for a year or two under the two aging vets, and then slip right in to take over when Poyer (who considered retirement this off-season) or Hyde, decides to hang the cleats up. If it wasn’t clear already, Brandon Beane is one of the best general managers in the NFL. He continues to prove why fans should have sheer confidence in him running their favorite football team.
