Should the Buffalo Bills trade for Brandon Aiyuk?

Brandon Aiyuk is the type of player who fits the Buffalo Bills now and in the future. While his salary cap hit will increase, it would become manageable for the Bills next season as the NFL salary cap increases, and the Bills gain additional flexibility with salaries coming off of the books – including large salaries such as Ed Oliver who seems unlikely to be back with Buffalo after next season.

Then as Aiyuk’s salaries continue to increase, other large salaries will come off the books – like Von Miller and eventually Stefon Diggs. Due to the structure of the Bills current contracts, Aiyuk’s escalations actually fit without creating more problems.

On the field, he is exactly the type of playmaker the Bills should be looking for. Stefon Diggs is an electric number one receiver – one of the best in the NFL, and someone the Bills should continue to build around and embrace. However, he will not remain elite forever. Aiyuk fits perfectly with what the Bills are doing, as he can be their number two receiver now, and as he continues to grow he could become their number one down the road.

Adding Aiyuk to Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis alongside new additions Deonte Harty and Trent Sherfield would give them a truly elite group of weapons in the passing game, and allow Khalil Shakir another year to develop. While he would cost more than an older player such as DeAndre Hopkins, Aiyuk is probably an even better fit long-term.
