3 reasons the Buffalo Bills re-signing Jordan Poyer was a win for all
By Joe Cook
When the legal tampering period for NFL free agents opened on Monday afternoon, Buffalo Bills fans feared the worst. Fan favorite safety, Jordan Poyer, who sought a new contract since last offseason, was set to speak with other teams for the first time since he joined the Bills in 2017. The All-Pro seemed to have both feet out the door.
Since the Bills’ last game of the season, in which they fell short to the Bengals in the divisional round; the Poyer leaving Buffalo hype-train continually picked up steam. It didn’t help when Poyer jumped on his podcast in late February, discussing his looming free agency.
“I would like to go to a State that doesn’t take half my money,” Poyer explained, as he complained about the New York State taxes. He even said, “If it wasn’t Buffalo, it’d be nice to be warm.”
This sent the Bills’ fandom into a frenzy about losing their star defensive player. As the days kept passing, steaming towards free agency, Poyer and his wife, Rachel Bush, were caught liking comments and pictures of Poyer joining other teams on Twitter. The most notable was a jersey-swap picture of Poyer in a Dallas Cowboys Uniform.
On March 8, five days before the tampering period, Adam Schefter reported that the Bills were likely to lose both Poyer and fellow star, Tremaine Edmunds. On Thursday, March 16, the Bills officially inked Poyer to a new two-year contract. The contract that bought Poyer back home, is one of the few reasons behind how the team stole him back.
