Buffalo Bills Free Agency: 3 ideal replacements for Tremaine Edmunds
By Ryan Heckman
Monday, the Buffalo Bills saw one of their worst possible scenarios come true as the Chicago Bears agreed to terms with free agent linebacker Tremaine Edmunds.
As one of the Bills’ top two in-house free agents, Edmunds was definitely wanted back in Buffalo. However, not likely at the price Chicago paid.
The Bears are going to pay him $72 million over a four-year deal, which wasn’t a price the Bills were going to entertain; especially not given their current cap situation.
Now that Edmunds is on the way out of town, the Bills need a replacement. They could opt for the draft, or they could look at one of the following three veteran free agents. Let’s start with a possible long-term solution, before getting to a pair of win-now, short-term types.
Possible Buffalo Bills free agency replacements for Tremaine Edmunds: Devin Bush
By far, the cheapest and yet, the youngest option on this list, is Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Devin Bush. He hasn’t quite hit his potential coming out of Michigan and would benefit from playing next to someone like Matt Milano, who makes everybody around him better.
Bush is only 24 years old and still has plenty of career in front of him. Being surrounded by guys like Milano, Von Miller, Tre’Davious White, among others would allow him to potentially reach that ceiling.
Is he the most sought-after replacement for Edmunds? Not necessarily. However, he would come cheaper and still has time to improve. Playing under Sean McDermott would help, too, as McDermott has been one to get the most out of his defensive guys for a while now.
