The Indianapolis Colts had an excellent group of linebackers last year with Shaquille Leonard leading the way and Bobby Okereke starting alongside him. Okereke has been a starter for two seasons and should have plenty of interest in free agency, including from the Buffalo Bills.

However, if they are not about to offer the contract needed then E.J. Speed could be another former Colts’ linebacker that could make sense. Speed was a fifth round pick by the Colts in the 2019 NFL Draft and has primarily been a special teams contributor with over 1,000 special teams snaps to begin his career.

This past season, Speed got the chance to play more on defense and actually started five games however he only had two games where he played over 50% of the defensive snaps. In those games, he had 15 total tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, and one pass defended.

At a minimum, E.J. Speed could be a replacement for Tyler Matakevich on the Buffalo Bills special teams but the potential is there for him to be a possible replacement for Tremaine Edmunds.
