Buffalo Bills should add a veteran running back to pair with James Cook

The Buffalo Bills starting running back last season, Devin Singletary, is expected to leave in free agency but the Bills have James Cook, who should step in as the starter moving forward. The Bills’ second-round pick from last year had a strong finish to the season and showed he could be a difference-maker in this offense.

However, Cook is not the type of running back that can handle all the workload as a featured running back. He is best in open space and as a receiver so pairing him with a veteran, big-bodied running back makes a lot of sense.

The Bills certainly could find a player to complement in the NFL Draft, especially later in the Draft, but a veteran could be the better route to bring experience to the position. The good news is that the running back position is one that usually doesn’t require big contracts and the Bills should be able to find some value here in free agency.
