It is a busy few weeks for the Buffalo Bills and the front office as they are working to build a roster for the 2023 season that can compete for a Lombardi Trophy. The team is going to be at the Scouting Combine next week in preparation for the NFL Draft, will need to try and figure out what players on the team last year who are set to be free agents that they want to bring back as well as fix their current salary cap to get under the salary cap for 2023.

The Bills will likely have to cut some players as well as restructure some contracts to get that done. Another option the team has is to try and extend players who are still under contract to keep key players in Buffalo but also lower their cap hit in the upcoming season.

With that in mind, these are five players that potentially could receive contract extensions this offseason.

Nyheim Hines

The Buffalo Bills traded for Nyheim Hines during the season with the Indianapolis Colts and the expectation was he would be another playmaker in Ken Dorsey’s offense for Josh Allen. However, he didn’t see many snaps on offense but still contributed and became the team’s primary returner on kickoffs and punts.

This season, Hines is set to have a cap hit over $4 million but none of the salary is guaranteed. The Bills could release the running back to create that cap space but he is a good player that could be utilized more moving forward. A better option thought could be signing him to a contract extension that could help lower his cap hit this season and not waste the draft pick they sent in the trade.
