Last offseason, the Buffalo Bills and general manager Brandon Beane were aggressive in free agency in hopes of improving the roster and to get further in the playoffs than the prior season. That ultimately didn’t work out and all the moves the Bills made didn’t work out as planned.
However, there were a few deals, particularly on the defensive line, that the Buffalo Bills should feel were excellent moves on their part as these players had a good first season in Western New York.

DaQuan Jones
The first player is one whose impact goes beyond the box score in defensive tackle DaQuan Jones. The Bills signed the veteran defensive lineman after he recently played one season with the Carolina Panthers and the hope was that he could be a key part of improving the run defense.
Jones certainly did that and was one of the reasons the Bills’ defense went from 13th in the league in rushing yards allowed in 2021 to allowing the fifth-lowest average last season. He also helped players like Ed Oliver as he would command more offensive linemen and this created more winnable matchups for the former first round pick.
The Buffalo Bills signed DaQuan Jones to the second most expensive contract they offered last year and while it was a significant contract, Jones’ performance last year lived up to the contract.
