Do the Buffalo Bills extend Ed Oliver this offseason?

The Buffalo Bills are going to be competing with other teams in the NFL to sign Tremaine Edmunds because they weren’t able to extend him last offseason with him entering the final year of his rookie contract. The front office will be faced with a similar decision this offseason with defensive tackle Ed Oliver.

The Bills drafted Oliver with the ninth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft as he was one of the most athletic defensive tackles in the draft that year and has the potential to be a dominant presence on the interior of the defensive line.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t really shown that consistently over his first four years with the Bills. There is no question that there have been flashes but then there will be stretches where he is almost non-existent.

There are some benefits to working out a new deal with Oliver as it would lower his cap hit for the coming season, which is over $10 million according to Spotrac. However, the risk is there if he doesn’t continue to develop and improve.
