There is no question that the Buffalo Bills are going to have to find ways to improve their roster this offseason. General manager Brandon Beane and the front office will explore every avenue from free agency, to trading for players, to the 2023 NFL Draft.

However, some of those improvements could come from players already on the roster. These are players who showed flashes in limited action but put into an expanded role could help get the Buffalo Bills over the hump and hopefully make a deeper playoff run in 2023.

The running back position should look very different this upcoming season with Devin Singletary set to be a free agent. While Singletary has been productive at times, it seems likely that the Bills will let him leave in free agency and not sign him to a long-term contract.

The reason is that they have a player already on the roster who looks ready to take over as the top running back in this offense in last year’s second round pick James Cook. The former Georgia Bulldog running back brings more to the position with his explosiveness and his pass catching ability out of the backfield.

Last year, Cook didn’t see regular snaps but when he did get a chance he was productive. He finished the year averaging 5.7 yards per carry and while he had only one more rush over 20 yards than Singletary he did it on half the carries.

The Buffalo Bills will want to add another running back to this backfield but can find that on Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft by drafting a bigger bodied running back to pair with James Cook.
