Buffalo Bills: 4 possible cap casualties to monitor in free agency
By Ryan Heckman
Potential salary cap cuts the Buffalo Bills should monitor in free agency: Shaq Mason, G, Bucs
Like a lot of teams, the Bucs are also stretched with their cap and could save $5 million by cutting guard Shaq Mason. He will soon be 30, but has plenty of football left in him. The former 2015 fourth-round pick would be in line for a big contract, and maybe his last big contract before the end of his career creeps up.
Mason played a whopping 1,200 snaps at right guard last year and gave up only one sack. He was also called for just two penalties. Those are unbelievable numbers, for those who may not realize.
Mason’s experience playing with Tom Brady should not be overlooked, either. Brady typically brings the best out of most players, and Mason was no exception to that rule. He played maybe his best season last year, although the Bucs didn’t get past the first round of the playoffs.
Buffalo will likely need to replace Rodger Saffold with a more consistent option, one who can block better in the run game, specifically. Mason would be an ideal addition to the Bills and would solidify a major need.
