When the Buffalo Bills were going into the 2023 NFL Draft, one common theme amongst Bills Mafia was that the team needed more offensive help. Buffalo was coming off a season that started out strong, but ended with a huge blowout loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round of the playoffs.

The offense needed more of a supporting cast, and there were debates on what direction Buffalo should have went in. In the end, the Bills traded up two spots to acquire tight end Dalton Kincaid out of the University of Utah. Bringing in Kincaid brought Josh Allen help in terms of having a security blanket in crucial moments.

In three seasons with the Bills, Kincaid has shown flashes of being a top tight end in this league. However, an unfortunate common theme with him is injuries as he has been dealing with a knee injury since the middle of the 2024 season. Despite him missing time, he has still managed to post 1,692 yards and 9 touchdowns. even though he hasn't played more than 13 games in the last two seasons.

The Bills did end up picking up the 5th-year option on Kincaid's contract, which could signal a potential long-term extension. However, what if the Bills went in a different direction in that draft? Especially now knowing one of the biggest issues on their roster could have been solved...

Bills take care of offensive line issue in 2023 NFL redraft

Ryan Wilson from CBS Sports recently conducted a 2023 NFL redraft which featured two quarterbacks; Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud. Those were the two biggest names that fans were wondering who would go No. 1 to the Carolina Panthers, after they had traded up with the Chicago Bears.

The Bills were set to pick in the mid 20s, and once it got close to them picking, that’s when they traded ahead of the Dallas Cowboys to draft Kincaid. In this redraft by Wilson, the Bills pass on Kincaid (who actually fell out of the first round in the redraft), and select offensive guard, Steve Avila who was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Rams early in the second round.

"O'Cyrus Torrence has been really good for the Bills, but Steve Avila has maybe been a little better in L.A. for the Rams, where he's played solely at left guard. He'll have to move to right guard in Buffalo, but I'd expect him to play close to the same level." said Wilson.

With the Bills having competition for the left guard position now that David Edwards is gone, having someone like Avila would have the offensive line solidified especially since O’Cyrus Torrence was drafted by the Bills in the second round in that same draft.

While the Bills would eventually have to make a decision on them both since they were drafted in 2023, Buffalo wouldn’t be having a competition at a crucial spot to keep Josh Allen protected. Instead, a battle between Alec Anderson and Austin Corbett, both who are on one-year deals, is the direction the Bills are going.
