If the Buffalo Bills were to sign Dee Ford or Benson Mayowa there would certainly be a greater learning curve for those players. However, there are a few defensive ends that are free agents that have previously been with the Buffalo Bills and could step in almost immediately.

One of those players is Bryan Cox Jr., who joined the Bills in 2020 as a free agent and spent three seasons with the franchise but appeared in only one regular season game. He spent most of his time on the practice squad but last year was placed on injured reserve during minicamp after suffering an Achilles injury.

Since the team put him on injured reserve during the offseason, there wasn’t the option to activate him off injured reserve and his season was over.

Prior to joining the Bills, Bryan Cox Jr. started with the Carolina Panthers in 2017 and while he didn’t play for Sean McDermott, he did play for Eric Washington, who was defensive coordinator with Carolina but is now defensive line coach for the Bills.

If Bryan Cox Jr. is healthy and past his Achilles injury, this is a move that would make a lot of sense.
