The Buffalo Bills will be without three starters on defense for Week 10
The Buffalo Bills are set to kick off in about an hour and a half against the Minnesota Vikings and fortunately will have their star quarterback under center. Josh Allen is active for this game after participating in only one limited practice this week.
Unfortunately, the Bills aren’t as lucky on the defensive side of the ball as they are without three starters for this game. The team ruled out safety Jordan Poyer and defensive end Greg Rousseau on Friday but they will be joined by cornerback Kaiir Elam on the inactive report.
The first round draft pick is dealing with an ankle injury that kept him limited on Wednesday and forced him to miss practice on both Thursday and Friday. He was listed as doubtful for this game so his being inactive isn’t a huge surprise.
This week though marks the debut of two players with the Buffalo Bills as both Xavier Rhodes and Duke Johnson are active. Both players were called up from the practice squad on Saturday and are now active.
Both are interesting call-ups and it will be worth watching just how much they play. Xavier Rhodes is a veteran cornerback that should rotate in with Dane Jackson and Christian Benford as Tre’Davious White will not be available this week.
As for Duke Johnson, he could have been called up to cover kickoffs as he has experience in this area and the coaching staff may feel more comfortable with him back returning kicks due to the potential for inclement weather.
He also could be a factor in this offensive scheme this week if the team wants to focus on short passes to running backs with Josh Allen’s elbow maybe not at 100%.
