Matt Milano
Matt Milano is playing excellent football this year and is at the point where he may no longer be able to fall into the category of “unsung hero”. On Sunday against the Chiefs, he had only three total tackles, one pass defended, and two QB hits but his impact definitely went well beyond the box score.
Milano for most of the game seemed to be tasked with spying Patrick Mahomes and ensuring he didn’t pick up extra yards with his legs once he escaped the pocket. For most of the day, Milano did a great job with this, including on the Chiefs’ final play of the game.
Taron Johnson would make the interception and it was due in part to Von Miller’s excellent move to pressure Patrick Mahomes. However, it was Milano that really made that play happen because as Mahomes escaped the pocket, Milano was coming around the edge and got in Mahomes face.
It forced Mahomes to not really set himself and throw a pass off balance. This slight adjustment allowed Taron Johnson to cut in front of Skyy Moore and make the interception.
These are the little plays that Matt Milano is doing that will sometimes go unnoticed but have a big impact on the Buffalo Bills’ defense success.
