One of the leaders of the Buffalo Bills’ defense is safety Jordan Poyer and he is playing excellent football to start the season. When on the field he is one of the best safeties in the league and has four interceptions already on the season.
The challenge for Poyer is staying on the field as he has had to deal with a number of injuries already this season. He suffered an elbow injury during training camp and then missed Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins with a foot injury.
Poyer would return for the game against the Baltimore Ravens and record two of his four interceptions, including one late in the game that helped the Buffalo Bills complete the comeback. However, he suffered another injury but this time was his ribs and would miss Week 5.
He would be able to practice leading up to the Kansas City Chiefs game and didn’t have an injury designation for this game. The assumption would be that the rib injury had healed however that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Jordan Poyer reportedly had to drive to Kansas City for the Buffalo Bills’ Week 6 game
According to Jon Scott with Spectrum News, Jordan Poyer had to drive to Kansas City due to the fact that he was not cleared to fly due to a rib injury. The Bills’ All-Pro safety will also need to now do the 15-hour drive back to Buffalo.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen tweeted after Scott’s tweet that this is something that has happened on occasion in the past and a few years ago Deshaun Watson, then with the Houston Texans, had to drive for a game. The reason that Poyer was not able to fly was due to doctors not being comfortable with the air pressure changes that come with flying.
Jordan Poyer certainly deserves a great deal of credit for being willing to make that drive and is the heart and soul of this defense. The good news is that this is potentially not going to be an issue going forward as the Bills have their bye week this coming week and then a home game against the Green Bay Packers.
Their next road game is on November 6th when they travel to play the New York Jets.
