The Buffalo Bills have some options this week if they want to bring in a safety to help the position
For the first time with Sean McDermott as head coach, the Buffalo Bills entered a game with serious questions at safety. On Saturday, the Bills placed Micah Hyde on injured reserve and he is expected to miss the remainder of the year.
Then later in the day, it was reported that Jordan Poyer also would not be able to play due to a foot injury. The good news for Poyer is that this doesn’t appear to be season-ending since he did practice some last week and he could be back as early as this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens.
The Bills would end up having Jaquan Johnson and Damar Hamlin get the start at safety against the Miami Dolphins and considering this was Johnson’s second career start and Hamlin’s first, this group did pretty well limiting the big plays.
The coaching staff should be confident in either Johnson or Hamlin starting next to Poyer for the remainder of the year. However, this doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t make some roster moves before next week.
While the Buffalo Bills may not be looking for a starting safety, they could use depth at the position as well as someone who could handle the special teams work that Johnson or Hamlin was doing.
With that in mind, these are five players that the Buffalo Bills should consider signing to help with depth and special teams snaps.
