4 observations from the Buffalo Bills snap counts in Week 2
Christian Benford starts again for the Buffalo Bills at cornerback
For the second straight week, sixth-round rookie Christian Benford got the start opposite Dane Jackson. He also wasn’t rotating as much with Kaiir Elam this week and it appears that he is starting to really solidify himself in the role as the starter.
Benford would finish the game playing the most snaps of all the players on defense with 51 (91%). While the Bills were taking starters out, the coaching staff likely wanted to get the rookie more experience in an NFL game and decided to leave him in.
While Elam didn’t start, he did play a majority of the defensive snaps and was on the field for 66% of the snaps this week. The reason he played as much as he did was due to the injury to Dane Jackson, who suffered a neck injury right before halftime.
If Jackson is not able to return for Sunday’s game with the Miami Dolphins, the Bills will look to both rookies to start and probably play the entire game.
