Buffalo Bills Player to Watch: Jordan Phillips

One of the big storylines to watch leading up to Monday night will be the health at defensive tackle. On Thursday, the Bills were without Ed Oliver and Tim Settle in practice as they deal with injuries.

If both players are unable to play or are limited during the course of the game, it sets up Jordan Phillips to have an expanded role this week against the Titans.

Phillips returned to Buffalo this offseason as a free agent after playing the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He dealt with injuries during that time and was not able to play at the level he did in 2019 in his final season in Buffalo when he had 9.5 sacks.

However, last week against the Rams he looked like the player from 2019 and was making plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage and putting consistent pressure on Matthew Stafford. He finished the game with 1.5 sacks and three QB hits while playing 52% of the snaps.

The Titans are not going to completely abandon the pass so it is going to still be important to get pressure on Ryan Tannehill. This is a week that Phillips likely sees that expanded snap count that he saw in Week 1 and if he can generate pressure up the middle as he did against the Rams, it is going to disrupt Tannehill and the Titans’ passing game.
