The excitement around the Buffalo Bills was at a fever pitch before the season even started and seemingly only got greater after their 31-10 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Most power rankings had the Buffalo Bills in their top spot before the season and there was really no reason to move them from that top spot after their Week 1 performance.

Let’s take a closer look at what some of the other media outlets are saying about the Buffalo Bills heading into Week 2.

Buffalo Bills Week 2 Power Rankings: ESPN

Ranking: 1

This week each ESPN reporter was asked to identify one rookie who stood out and Alaina Getzenberg picked running back James Cook.

"Unfortunately, the second-round pick stood out for the wrong reason — fumbling on his first career NFL snap during the Bills’ turnover-filled start against the Rams."

Certainly, the first game in James Cook’s NFL career was a disappointment as he only had that one carry all game and played a total of three snaps. However, I probably would have picked sixth-round draft pick Christian Benford as the rookie cornerback got the start over first round draft pick Kaiir Elam.

The coaching staff deserves credit for looking past where players were drafted and going with the one they believed was the best. Benford had a good game and helped keep the Rams’ offense in check.

Pete Prisco at CBS Sports kept his reasoning short and sweet by writing:

"After their showing against the Rams, there is no doubt they should be in this top spot. They sent a message to the rest of the league with that victory."

It is hard to argue with this and it is essentially where the Buffalo Bills are right now. The question is can they keep this focus over the entire season and be motivated in that top spot versus chasing other teams in the conference and NFL as a whole?

Buffalo Bills Week 2 Power Rankings: Bleacher Report

Ranking: 1

The Buffalo Bills may still be in the number one spot but they are certainly going to have to earn it over the next few weeks with big games coming up as Gary Davenport notes:

"“To say that the Bills were dominant on Thursday night is an understatement,” Davenport said. “Blowing out the defending champs like that should give them confidence as they continue a grueling early slate featuring five straight games against teams that won at least eight games last season.”"

The upcoming schedule includes games against the Titans, Dolphins, Ravens, Steelers, and then a big matchup in Week 6 that could decide the first seed in the AFC playoffs against the Chiefs in Kansas City.

However, the Bills will need to take it one game at a time and that next game is on Monday night at Highmark Stadium against the Tennessee Titans.
