Another punter that the Buffalo Bills should consider who was recently released is Sam Martin, who has been in the league nine years with his first seven as a member of the Detroit Lions and the past two with the Denver Broncos.

He has similar averages to Kern with an average of over 46 yards per punt the past two years. However, he has been asked to punt a lot more than the former Titans’ punter with 48 more punts since 2020.

One stat that stands out for Martin is that last year he finished third in the NFL in net yards per punt with an average of 42.8 yards per punt. This was over two yards better than Kern, who finished with an average of 40.4 net yards per punt and ranked 15th in the NFL.

The Buffalo Bills last year didn’t ask Matt Haack to punt often but when that need arises, either Sam Martin or Brett Kern would be great options.
