The Buffalo Bills had to cut their roster down to 53 players on Tuesday and in the process were going to have to cut some good players. That was evident on Wednesday as four players who were on the roster this summer with the Buffalo Bills were claimed on waivers.

That group included defensive end Kingsley Jonathan, who was claimed by the Chicago Bears, Luke Tenuta, who was claimed by the Indianapolis Colts, offensive tackle Tanner Owens, who was claimed by the New Orleans Saints, and defensive back Nick McCloud, who was claimed by the New York Giants.

In addition to those four, there was two draft picks by the Buffalo Bills from last year who were claimed on waivers. Offensive lineman Jack Anderson, who was signed off the Bills practice squad last year by the Philadelphia Eagles, was claimed by the New York Giants this year. Cornerback Rachaad Wildgoose, who was signed off the Bills’ practice squad last year by the New York Jets, was claimed by the Washington Commanders.

Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills didn’t make any waiver claims.

Former Buffalo Bills Isaiah Hodgins and Raheem Blackshear were unclaimed

While the Buffalo Bills likely wanted to bring back a number of those players claimed, most likely Tenuta and McCloud, there were two notable players who went unclaimed. Those were wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins and running back Raheem Blackshear.

Both players had good preseasons and were likely on the roster bubble for the Buffalo Bills. Isaiah Hodgins led the team in receptions in the first preseason game and made key fourth down catches against the Carolina Panthers.

Meanwhile, Raheem Blackshear showed off his ability running the ball, with two rushing touchdowns against the Broncos, as a receiver out of the backfield, with 60 receiving yards against the Colts. He also contributed to special teams as a returner on kickoffs and punts.

Now they will have a chance to bring back both as members of their practice squad, which should be announced later on Wednesday.
