What is next after Buffalo Bills placed Tre’Davious White on Reserve/PUP list?
On Tuesday the Buffalo Bills finalized their initial 53-man roster and among all the roster cuts, the team also moved cornerback Tre’Davious White to the reserve/PUP list.
The former All-Pro didn’t participate in training camp practices or preseason this summer as he works his way back from an ACL injury. When the Bills arrived at St. John Fisher University, he was added to the active/PUP list but the team was forced to change his designation to either the active roster or the reserve/PUP list when they cut their roster down to 53 players.
What does this mean for Tre’Davious White?
The move to the reserve/PUP list means the cornerback won’t be able to return to practice until after four regular season games. This means the earliest White could return is Week 5 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However considering he can’t even practice with the team until after that fourth game, it is unlikely he could return for the game against the Steelers.
By being added to the reserve/PUP list, he will miss the games against the Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, and Baltimore Ravens.
Once the Buffalo Bills activate Tre’Davious White from the reserve/PUP list, they will have 21 days to move him to the active roster.
What does this mean for the Buffalo Bills?
For the Buffalo Bills, this means they know they are going to be without their star cornerback for at least a quarter of the season. This is certainly not ideal and the team knows that their starting cornerbacks is going to be some combination of Dane Jackson, Kaiir Elam, and Christian Benford.
The good news is that outside of the first game of the season against the Rams, they don’t face high-powered passing offenses. They may be able to get by with this group but it could also potentially open the door for them to explore adding a veteran to help them get through the beginning of the season without Tre’Davious White.
