Recapping the Buffalo Bills rookies performance against the Broncos
James Cook
James Cook only played 12 snaps against the Denver Broncos but was heavily involved when on the field and productive. He would have four carries for 38 yards and showed off some of that burst on a 19-yard run on the outside. In addition, he had one reception for 12 yards.
With the starters playing in this game, the coaching staff showed off what this backfield could look like during the regular season with Devin Singletary primarily the early down back, Zack Moss as the goal-line and short-yardage back and James Cook as the change of pace.
This seems to play to the strengths of each running back and the backfield is going to be a challenge for defenses.
Terrel Bernard
With the starters playing the first quarter, third round draft pick Terrel Bernard saw his snaps significantly decrease as he played only 20 in the game and didn’t register a stat.
The thought was that Bernard may have a role this season as that third linebacker and potentially replacing A.J. Klein. However, that went to Tyrel Dodson in this game and he seems to be the one most likely to be on the field when Buffalo elects to line up in their 4-3 defense.
This could leave Bernard as the fourth linebacker and probably primarily a special teams player, which he did have five snaps at special teams against the Broncos.
