Shaq Lawson
While Blackshear and Johnson are likely on the outside looking in, Shaq Lawson is probably a player who is currently on the 53-man roster. However, the former first round pick needed a game like this one to really cement his spot not only on the roster but within the rotation at defensive end.
The Bills didn’t have Von Miller play in this game so Lawson was part of the rotation with the starters along with Greg Rousseau, Boogie Basham, and A.J. Epenesa. During training camp and into the first preseason game, Lawson has been steady but hasn’t really done anything that made him stand out on this defense.
However, against the Broncos he made some big plays including a tackle for loss, a QB hit, and a pass breakup on a screen pass.
Shaq Lawson had a career year in his final season in Buffalo in 2019 and a return to this defense could be exactly what he needs to turn his career around. These are the types of games the coaching staff is likely hoping to get from Lawson on a consistent basis.
