Duke Johnson
Another player who may not be able to control his chances to make the 53-man roster is running back Duke Johnson. The veteran running back was added this offseason but became a long-shot to make the roster once they drafted James Cook in the NFL Draft.
Johnson has shown in his career that he can be a threat in the passing game out of the backfield but in the first preseason game only had one reception for one yard on two targets. Johnson also got six carries but was only able to manage nine rushing yards.
He did contribute on special teams and showed some nice burst on a 43-yard return on a kickoff.
The problem is that the Buffalo Bills are only able to keep so many running backs and it looks like those spots are locked up for Devin Singletary, Zack Moss, James Cook, and Taiwan Jones (who is a key part of special teams). Even if Johnson has a great game, there probably isn’t a spot left for the Buffalo Bills to keep him in this backfield.
