Khalil Shakir

While Bernard had the biggest singular play from a rookie, it was Khalil Shakir who had the best game from start to finish. The former Boise State wide receiver looked almost uncoverable during the game against the Colts and had five receptions for 92 yards. He would lead the Buffalo Bills in receiving yards in this game.

It was a great first game for Shakir and if he continues to play at this level over the next two preseason games, it might create a challenge for the coaching staff. He may be too good to keep on the sideline and the Bills may have to try and find a role for him this upcoming season.

Matt Araiza

The only play outside of the Terrel Bernard touchdown that got fans talking more was the punt from Matt Araiza, who would punt it 82-yards and have it roll into the end zone for a touchback. There was no question that Araiza had one of the strongest legs in the NFL Draft but a chance to see it in an NFL game was something else.

In addition to the one punt, Araiza also held all of Tyler Bass’ field goal attempts and passed the first test in this role. This may be the final hurdle for the rookie in his battle with Matt Haack for the starting punter job.
