New England Patriots: Who is going to be calling plays in the regular season?

The New England Patriots are similar to the Buffalo Bills in that they had to replace their offensive coordinator from last year as Josh McDaniels took the job to be head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

However, unlike the Buffalo Bills, as they announced earlier in the year that Ken Dorsey would be taking over for Brian Daboll, there has not been the same level of clarity from Bill Belichick and the Patriots.

In fact, the Patriots still are seemingly trying to determine that as they had Matt Patricia and Joe Judge call the offensive plays in their game against the New York Giants. Patricia and Judge both returned to the Patriots after being fired from their head coach positions with the Detroit Lions (Patricia was fired after the 2020 season) and New York Giants (Judge was fired after the 2021 season) respectively.

Belichick said it’s still a work in progress and didn’t say who would be the coach calling plays this year after the Giants game:

"“We did a lot of things in this game that are going to be beneficial in the long run, whether it was on the coaching staff, playing time, players that played and so forth. That’s all part of the process,” he said. “We’ll work it out.”"

Bill Belichick has always been a coach that has done things differently and tried to keep some level of secrecy with how he runs this team. However, it would seem that sooner rather than later it would make sense to name who would be calling plays this year.
