7 quick thoughts from Buffalo Bills preseason win over the Colts
James Cook back to return the opening kickoff
The Buffalo Bills opened the game on offense and received the opening kickoff. The notable part of that play was that rookie James Cook was on the field for the kickoff return.
The return itself wasn’t anything that stood out, as it was only 20 yards, but the fact that he was on the field for it was interesting, to say the least. On the first depth chart of the year, Cook was listed as the third-string for kickoffs behind Isaiah McKenzie and Duke Johnson.
While McKenzie was kept out of this game, Duke Johnson did play and would be the primary returner after the opening kickoff along with Raheem Blackshear.
Did the Bills want to put Cook out there as a way to get him involved early in the game and maybe try to remove any rookie anxiety? Or is there the possibility that Cook could be the backup on kickoffs behind Isaiah McKenzie?
It will be worth watching the next few preseason games if the rookie out of the University of Georgia gets any more work on kickoffs.
