Zack Moss won’t be the only running back worth paying attention to in this preseason game as this will be rookie James Cook first opportunity to get some live-action at the NFL level.

The Bills’ second round draft pick is going to be a versatile chess piece for this offense and offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey will likely move him around in the formation to try and create mismatches. It will be interesting to see how much the Bills do this during the preseason and may save this part of the playbook for the regular season.

However, James Cook should get some work out of the backfield as both a runner and running routes. During training camp, he looked explosive and showed good burst early in training camp according to Matt Parrino and that hopefully carries over into this game against the Colts.

In addition, it will be worth noting how Cook does in pass protection and if he can handle picking up the blitz. This is something that could have a big impact on how much he is involved in this offense early this rookie season.
