Should the Buffalo Bills bring back offensive lineman Daryl Williams?

The depth on the offensive line has been tested so far in training camp for the Buffalo Bills. They have been without Rodger Saffold (NFI list) and Ike Boettger (PUP list) right from the start of training camp.

In addition to those two, the Bills have been without Ryan Bates, who is expected to be a starter, for most of training camp. They have also seen Greg Mancz miss time and Spencer Brown has not been cleared for team activities, according to Chris Brown.

Daryl Williams could be the answer to the Buffalo Bills’ problems

If the Buffalo Bills want to add depth there may not be a better option than Daryl Williams. The Bills signed the former Carolina Panthers offensive lineman as a free agent in 2020 to a one-year deal.

Williams emerged as the starting right tackle that year and would start every game that season. The way he played he would get a new three-year contract last offseason but would lose the starting right tackle job to Spencer Brown in Week 4 last year.

He would remain a starter but move inside to right guard and would continue to be a reliable offensive lineman. He started every game last year as well even with the position switch and according to Pro Football Focus allowed only four sacks.

Unfortunately, because of the contract he had, the Buffalo Bills would release him this offseason for cap space.

Now with the Buffalo Bills dealing with so many injuries bringing back Daryl Williams could be the perfect answer. He has position versatility as he can play both guard and tackle and while the team does have a new offensive coordinator in Ken Dorsey, Williams is familiar enough that he could help right away.

Hopefully, the Bills are able to get players like Bates and Saffold back soon and this won’t be an issue. However, if these players are still a few weeks away or if the Buffalo Bills believe their absence could carry over into the regular season adding Daryl Williams now could be a smart move to help solidify the offensive line.
